The rut this year has been very disappointing, mainly due to the lack of early morning light, and on the few occassions it was nice it was incredibly windy. The deer seemed more nervous this year than last, I guess in response to the increased visitor pressure and a few 'big' dogs off the lead chasing them around at dawn. Saying all this, with the rut now over for another year, I still love the experience of being on the top of the moor at dawn watching the sun rise and hearing the bellowing of the stags.
It's always hard to generate new images but it is something I strive to do.
This year I spent more time working on backlight deer in the gorgeous moorland grasses. These grasses are a little unique to the site and can produce images with a dreamy, ethereal effect. I guess not to everyones taste but certainly to mine.
