Cold, snow and frost conspire to push wildlife to the limits of survival. Some species leave as others arrive whilst a few avoid the harsh conditions by hibernating or becoming dormant.

As daylength increases the warming effects of the sun bring forth new life. Buds open, leaves unfurl and green once again assumes dominance.

Summer comes to an end and the wild world prepares for the coming winter. Leaves blaze, dormice and hedgehogs get fat and many birds leave for warmer climes.
